Champagne Les frères Mignon
A Winery family of organic champagnesFlorent and Julien Mignon are the descendants of a family historically linked to the world of champagne wine. Their great-great-grandfather already produced wine from the vines he cultivated until the family decided to stop production and limit itself to selling grapes until 2015. This project was only possible with the help of the family support and in particular the father, laying the foundations for this new venture and the creation of a new winery, which was completed just before the 2016 harvest. Beautiful Champagne terroirsThe Mignon brothers were fortunate to have vineyards in some of the best villages in the region, passed down to them from both sides of the family: on their mother's side, they received vines in the first Grand Cru of Avize, and on their father's side, they inherited terroirs in Cuis, Cumiers and Cramant A nice range of vintages and terroirs to start a new Winery. To date (2022), 90% of the vines are planted with Chardonnay in the communes of Avize, Cramant and Cuis, the remaining 10% are pinot noir à Cumières. |
Soil work and natural winemakingJulien concentrates on the work in the vineyards, which are certified organic. Florent, with the same philosophy, is more concerned with the work in the cellar, limiting interventions to a minimum. Everything is done with the aim of respecting the quality of the raw material. The use of sulphur is also minimal. Thus, after pressing, the juice is transferred to French oak barrels (255 l barrels and 600 l demi-muids), where the wines undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and are then left to age for about a year. The wine is then bottled without filtration or clarification and left to age for approximately 2 years in bottle before disgorgement. Each of the wines is delimited by village, except for L'Aventure, which is a blend of Chardonnay (over 50 years old) from Cuis, Avize and Cramant, Grand Cru and Premier Cru terroirs The first vintage of "Les Frères Mignon" was "L'Aventure" 1er Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs, released in 2019. A natural champagne favouriteIt was while tasting not a champagne but a coteau champenois that the Petites Caves team was seduced and enthusiastic. The partnership is underway! |
