Our orange or white maceration wines
An orange wine, to define it simply, is: " a white wine vinified like a red wine ". As with red-skinned grapes, white-skinned grapes are macerated with their skins before being pressed. Depending on the length of the so-called pellicular maceration and the type of Grape variety, the wine will then be more or less coloured, and may even turn orange (for long maceration). This process will give the wine structure and a certain tannic sensation while keeping the freshness and acidity of a white wine. Orange wines are fresh and juicy, offering original food/wine combinations.

What is an orange wine?
An orange wine is a white wine vinified like a red wine. White grapes are taken and fermented with the skin, which contains tannins, as for red wines. The preferred container for this type of wine is the amphora. As white skinned grapes also contain tannins, the skin maceration of these grapes will provide a balanced wine profile between acidity and structure (tannin). Depending on the type of grape variety and the length of skin maceration, the wine may be orange in colour.
Our orange wine producers
White wine has been made by maceration for a very long time. This tradition has existed since ancient times. These orange wines are now taken up by the best French and foreign winemakers. Among the orange wines we offer on Petites Caves, you can find many organic orange wines but also orange wines without sulphite! Discover for example the orange wines of Christophe Lindenlauborange wines, from Valentina Passalacqua, from Julien Meyer or from Vynyes Singulars among others !
What to drink orange wine with?
This is a very important question, and you are right to ask it. Orange wines can accompany a whole meal! These wines have more character than classic white wines, so you will find it easier to pair them with dishes other than fish. Cheese, seafood, quiches, omelettes, Asian cuisine, the possibilities are endless. We invite you to look at the bottle pages above to see what pairings we recommend. You may also want to look at the Guide me page for all our food/wine pairings to enhance your meals with a white wine from maceration.
A new natural wine
Orange wine is no longer a fad, it has become a new way of making wine with white grapes. It remains to be seen whether these wines will find their audience and become widely available. At Petites Caves, we already love these natural orange wines and we are proud to be able to help you discover or rediscover them!
Enjoy tasting white maceration wine or orange wine!
