We're talking to you about his Winery
Describing himself as a farmer-winemaker, the Alsatian Patrick Meyer ( Winery is halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar) claims to seek out the minerality of his soils and the identity of his terroirs. Rebellious and passionate, he advances in his own way, without concession, to offer elegant, fine wines, without artifice... in other words, NATURAL wines! No added sulphite, indigenous yeasts, light filtration, maturing in vats for the whites and in barrels for the reds, such are the methods of Patrick Meyer. For our greatest pleasure! Patrick Meyer took over the family vineyards (Julien MEYER) in 1982. He quickly turned to organic farming, banning synthetic products in 1990, minimising sulphur in 1993, and obtained the "Biodynamic" label in 1999. The vines (and the wines) are Ecocert and Demeter certified. |
Various terroirs extend around Nothalten in the Bas-Rhin, at the foot of the Vosges. Heinsenberg, Heisenstein, Muenchberg, Zellberg and Grittermatte are composed of varied soils of gneiss, clay, schist and sand. Moreover, with vines at an altitude of around 250 m and the least rainy climate in France, which results in slower ripening, Patrick Meyer chooses to vinify his parcels separately before any blending. The 7 Alsatian grape varieties are present in Patrick and Mireille Meyer's vineyard of nearly 10 hectares. |
