Organic and natural wines

Located in the Rhone Valley, Franck Balthazar has been running Winery since 2002. In 2010, the whole of Winery was converted to organic farming. Today, Franck Balthazar's Cornas are great organic and natural wines. In the cellar, the vinification is natural: whole grapes and indigenous yeasts, long and gentle maceration over a period of 13 to 14 days.

The wine is aged in 600 litre barrels, which are at least 5 years old, in order to reflect the terroir and the vintage. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining, with a minimum of sulphites for stabilisation.

A wine without added sulphite

Finally, Franck is now offering us a vibrant and sensitive no-sulphur-added wine, the result of all these years of hard work. Hats off to him!

A winemaker respectful of its vines

The farm in 2002 had 1.2 ha and has grown to 4 ha. Franck Balthazar works alone on the estate, except for harvesting and working the sometimes 60% sloping soils. The Winery is planted with Syrah in 3 parcels and the soils are granitic: 1.4 ha at the place called "Chaillot", with vines dating from the end of the 19th century. 0.4 ha at the place called "Mazards", vines dating from 1961. 1.7 ha at the place called "Legre", younger vines from 2005. Gradually, Franck Balthazar reworked its soils with the "old" ones (Juge, Clape, Voge) as a model and with the following in mind Thierry AllemandLE winemaker nature in Cornas. Since 2006, all the vines are treated only with sulphur and copper powder.
