The Winery Terre des Dames
A feminine wine adventure in the heart of the LanguedocLidewij Van Wilgen, who runs the lovely Winery'Terre des Dames' in Murviel-les-Béziers, is determined to work according to natural principles in viticulture and winemaking. She has worked hard to produce perfectly balanced, typical wines that offer excellent value for money. Established in 2002 not far from the Faugères and St-Chinian appellations, and coming from the world of advertising in the Netherlands, Lidewij had to impose herself as a woman, a foreigner and a revolutionary. The 14 hectares of clay-limestone, flint and oyster fossils are perfectly terraced, well drained, strongly winded. Even the springs provide natural irrigation. |
Work on the vine and controlled breeding: organic wines, freshnessOnly local grape varieties are represented: syrah, grenache, alicante and recently mourvèdre with plants from 25 to 90 years old. The rigorous work - zero insecticide since 2006 (certified organic since then), daily inspection of the vines, no synthetic fertilizers - results in an exceptional quality of grapes. The yield is low, up to 15 hl/ha for the alicante. Each Grape variety will be vinified separately to produce wines that are easy to digest, with a strong and fresh character. A bit like Lidewij who enchants us with her personality, her good mood and her fragility. Today, she puts everything on her cuvée "La Diva" with a discreet breeding, a refined and tense wine, with an unbeatable quality-price ratio! |
