Whisky or whiskey is the generic name for a group of spirits made by distilling malted or unmalted cereals. The origin of whisky is still today subject to controversy between Irish and Scotsmen, each one going back to his oldest proof. Later, the whisky was exported to the New World (notably to the United States and Canada). Since the beginning of the 20th century, distilleries have developed in Japan, and more recently in the rest of the world.
