We're telling you about their Winery
Winery has been in the family since 1758 and is located in the Piedmont region of Italy, in Canelli, 25 km south of Asti. Today, Alessandra Bera and her brother Gianluigi are in charge of Winery. After a long period of mixed farming and self-sufficiency, Winery became a fully-fledged vineyard with Vittorio, the father of Alessandra and Gianluigi. He took over the farm in 1964. After briefly trying out the new industrial viticulture methods of the 1960s, Vittorio Bera went back to the natural way of doing things, to " organic " in a way (as it was not called at the time). Gianluigi joined his father in 1982 at the family's Winery after studying oenology in Alba and was joined by his sister Alessandra in 1995. At that time, although the vines were worked as naturally as possible, the work in the cellar remained conventional. The Winery modifies its methods of wine making after the hazardous visit of the " natural " generation of the Beaujolais(Métras, Foillard, Thévenet, Lapierre...) and is thus oriented more and more towards the natural wine with the use of indigenous yeasts and a very rare use of sulphur. |
Today the vineyard area of the "azienda agricola" covers about 12 hectares, half of which is adjacent to Winery. The rest is spread out over a perimeter of 2 kilometres around the latter, with very different exposures. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2000. The landscape here is magnificent; green hills with the peaks of the Alps in the background, and the sea is not far away either (70 km). The soil is largely composed of marl resting on a silt base with some clay and sand. Harvesting begins when the grapes are ripe (yes, unbelievable, isn't it?!) and are picked in 20 kg boxes. In the cellar, the reds are de-stemmed, unlike the whites. If you want to (re)discover what a real Moscatto d'Asti or Barbera d'Asti is, you must do it with the wines of Winery Béra! Whether red or white, the organic wines offered are superbly mastered, you must try them, friends! |
