We're talking to you about his Winery
Julien and Alice Voogt arrived in 2015 on this magnificent Winery of Château de Brandeau: 9.5 ha in one piece surrounded by woods, hedges, meadows and certified since 1993 in organic (Ecocert). What a chance to take over from Andréa and Antony King who knew how to reveal this terroir while organizing the balance of the diversity of the fauna and flora Organic farming in the Bordeaux region since the 90's... it is simply incredible, extra-ordinary. Yes, it's a chance that Julien and Alice have seized... Since then, some investments have been made in the winery and not far from there Alice has also set up a small restaurant (wine bar) that works like a charm.
Here the Merlot is king (80%: 7.5 ha) for 2 ha of Cabernet Franc, all planted on south-facing clay-silt slopes with an oceanic climate (close to the Atlantic). This little corner of paradise is a place conducive to biodiversity, how not to get attached to it in order to produce lively wines. |
Depending on the vintage, Julien Voogt and his percheron, called Toby, choose whether or not to sow, work the soil, grass etc... The main idea remains to produce fresh, ripe grapes to best express the terroir without any oenological make-up. For this reason and obviously, the harvest is manual and depending on the plots of land the extractions are more or less long. Here too, Château Brandeau tries to express different expressions with these grape varieties: lighter cuvées of fresh fruit and others that are more intense and deep, pruned for ageing to preserve this Bordeaux tradition: the "Barrique d'Alice" cuvée. It should be noted that the wines are neither fined nor filtered and only a very light sulphiting is practised. |
