We're talking to you about his Winery
Clos des Vignes du Maynes, in Cruzille in the Mâconnais region, is now run by Julien Guillot. His wines gain in breadth, depth, finesse and complexity over time. We're thinking in particular of cuvées such as Aragonite (white) and Manganite (red), as well as the cuvée Auguste (made from pinot noir grapes). To help you wait, there are fresher wines, more accessible in the early years, such as Mâcon Cruzille white, or Cuvée 910 red (a blend of gamay, pinot noir and chardonnay). Last but not least, Julien's négoce wines, such as this Mâcon Villages, are also a real thrill. These wines also deserve to be featured in the range. This Winery has had a succession of illustrious owners, starting with the monks of Cluny Abbey (instead of 'maynes', read 'moines'). They registered the property as early as 910. Julien's grandfather Pierre, who bought the vines in 1954, was one of the first winegrowers to claim and work with organic methods and no inputs in vinification, a pioneer in terms of natural wine! | Winery is set in a magnificent 7-hectare vineyard, comprising 27 plots planted with the region's 3 historic grape varieties: pinot noir, gamay and chardonnay, one-third each. This terroir (the monks made no mistake) boasts some very important geological features, giving the wines enormous complexity and minerality. For all these centuries, the vines that have lived here, in these lands, have never seen chemistry. It's a Winery, a terroir but also a strong history. It was against this backdrop that Julien Guillot took up this work in 1998, with passion, determination, conviction and methodology. He continues in his own way, introducing Biodynamics as soon as he arrives. Julien knows each plot by heart, and can spend hours telling you all about it... Passion... |
