We're talking to you about his Winery
South-east of Nantes in the Muscadet region, Jo Landron's vines are impeccably tended, the yeasts are indigenous, fermentation is thermo-regulated to obtain a natural freshness, aging is carried out on lees and there is no fining on the 9 cuvées, each with its own character, gourmet or mineral... in any case "natural"! Jo Landron, a colorful character, always with a smile on his face and a mustache in the wind, like a Groucho of wine, a Marx brother of Muscadet!
But serious when it is necessary, explaining to you by many details his work of winemaker, detailing the soils of gneiss, orthogneiss, amphibolite and clays which characterize his Winery of 48 hectares (of which 50% in property, 11ha in GFA and the remainder in tenant farming). Or rather SES domains, de la Louveterie and Château de la Carizière, planted with Melon de Bourgogne on the heights of the Sèvre. An artist's work, therefore, to rediscover the methods of the beginning of the acquisition of the vineyard, in 1945, and to forget mechanization and the use of chemistry. |
The Winery was certified organic in 1999 and then biodynamic in 2008. However, Winery has been working under these principles for longer than that. Among all the vintages, the Fief du Breil is the pride of Jo Landron. First of all because it is bordered by a magnificent manor house which bears this name - The Manoirs were built by Nantes shipowners in the 18th century and were called "folies nantaises" (Nantes follies). Then because the Fief du Breil is a magical and magnificent place which descends through the trees towards the Sèvre. Finally because it will certainly be the next communal premier cru (after the Gorges and the Haie-Fouassière). The soil is poor, shallow and very stony. The wine is aged 30 months on lees and gives all its meaning to this magnificent Grape variety that is the melon. The melon, Grape variety very complex which at the beginning is not very seductive. It needs time to reveal its terroir and more particularly its minerality as long as winemaker takes the trouble. For Jo, and we understand it, a Grape variety unique in the world for connoisseurs. |
