What is the history of Château Sérol and the Sérol family?

Château Sérol, located in the Côte Roannaise appellation, is a family-run Winery whose history dates back to the 17th century. Established in the foothills of the Massif Central, it has weathered the centuries, adapting to change while remaining true to its winegrowing roots. It is in this exceptional setting, close to the gorges of the Loire, that several generations of the Sérol family have succeeded one another, each helping to forge the identity of Winery.

When Stéphane Sérol took over the family Winery in 1996, he inherited a well-established tradition, but he also saw an opportunity to transform the vineyard to make it even more respectful of its terroir. Alongside his wife Carine, he undertook a complete overhaul of farming practices, adopting a biodynamic approach. This transition represents a decisive turning point for Winery, emphasizing sustainable viticulture in harmony with nature. Together, they chose to replant the hillsides with the emblematic local Grape variety grape, Gamay Saint Romain, which expresses itself particularly well on the estate's granite soils.

Under Stéphane's direction, Château Sérol has also undertaken to breathe new life into forgotten vineyards, by selecting the best granite terroirs and developing high-density viticulture. Each plot is carefully worked to maximize the expression of the terroir. Today, Winery covers 35 hectares, the majority of which are devoted to Gamay Saint Romain, but also to grape varieties such as Viognier and, more recently, Chenin Blanc.

The transmission of winegrowing know-how and respect for ancestral practices are at the heart of Winery's philosophy. Stéphane and Carine Sérol have combined tradition and innovation to create natural wines that appeal to wine lovers the world over. Their commitment to biodiversity and soil health is testament to their passion for wine and their desire to preserve the family heritage for future generations. Today, Château Sérol is recognized not only for the quality of its wines, but also for its pioneering role in biodynamic agriculture in the Côte Roannaise region.

How does Château Sérol grow its biodynamic vines?

Winery has adopted certified biodynamic agriculture, respecting natural cycles to revitalize soil and vines. This approach uses natural preparations and takes into account the influence of lunar cycles, guaranteeing grapes of optimal quality.

Why choose the wines of Château Sérol on Petites Caves ?

The Château Sérol vineyard extends over unique, high-altitude granite soils, where the Gamay Saint Romain grape is king. This diversity of terroirs enables Winery to produce distinct wines that fully express the typical Côte Roannaise character.

Winery makes a point of producing natural wines, with no added sulfur, from spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Cuvées such as "Les Blondins" and "Perdrizière" testify to Winery 's commitment to offering lively wines that are a pure reflection of the terroir.

Château Sérol embodies a philosophy of respect for nature and its cycles, while producing wines of character, certified organic and biodynamic. Buying these wines on Petites Caves is to support a committed Winery and enjoy unique wines, revealing the authenticity of the Côte Roannaise terroir.
