What is Gilles Troullier's story?
Gilles Troullier is an independent and passionate winemaker based in Roussillon, a wine-growing region in the south of France renowned for its exceptional terroirs. Formerly an oenologist for some of Roussillon's leading houses, Gilles Troullier decided in 2010 to devote himself to his own winegrowing project, guided by a desire to produce authentic wines that respect the terroir. He settled on a 10-hectare plot at Winery , mostly made up of old vines, which he cultivates with meticulous care and a deep respect for the environment.
His philosophy is based on an organic viticultural approach, with no chemical inputs, and low-intervention winemaking. He seeks to preserve the purest expression of terroir, making the most of the specific characteristics of the schistose and granite soils of the high Roussillon hills. Winery is located at altitudes of between 350 and 600 meters, benefiting from an ideal climate for fresh, mineral wines, despite the Mediterranean sunshine.
Today, Gilles Troullier is renowned for his cuvées of natural and biodynamic wines, produced in small quantities and seductive for their precision and aromatic intensity. He is one of the region's most promising winemakers, with a handcrafted production where every detail is mastered.
What wine tourism activities does Gilles Troullier offer?
Although Gilles Troullier is primarily dedicated to the production of exceptional wines, he also opens his Winery to visitors curious to discover the specificities of winegrowing in the Roussillon region. Wine tourism activities focus mainly on private tastings, where visitors can discover the different cuvées of Winery, each a unique interpretation of the local terroir.
Tastings are often accompanied by explanations of the organic and biodynamic viticultural practices implemented at Winery. Gilles Troullier shares his minimalist, nature-friendly approach, explaining how he manages to create authentic wines without the addition of oenological tricks.
Although vineyard tours are not systematically open to the public, it is sometimes possible, by appointment, to explore the plots nestled in the Roussillon heights, and discover the secrets of old vines cultivated on terraces. These privileged moments allow you to better understand the impact of terroir, altitude and Mediterranean climate on the wines produced.
Which grape varieties does Gilles Troullier grow?
On his plots, Gilles Troullier favors grape varieties adapted to the climatic conditions and complex soils of Roussillon. Among the grape varieties cultivated are :
-
Grenache Noir: Grape variety king of Roussillon, Grenache Noir is grown on the old vines of Winery and produces wines of great richness, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, accompanied by spicy and mineral notes. Wines made from this grape Grape variety, in the expert hands of Gilles Troullier, are often powerful, but always balanced by a beautiful freshness due to the altitude.
-
Syrah: Syrah, grown on high-altitude plots, brings structure and intensity to red wines. This Grape variety grape stands out for its aromas of black fruits, violets and peppery notes, enhancing the complexity of Winery wines.
-
Carignan: Grape variety rustic and ancient, Carignan is also cultivated by Gilles Troullier. It gives wines silky tannins and aromas of red fruits and spices. The Carignan of Winery is characterized by great finesse and elegance on the palate.
These grape varieties are cultivated with the utmost care, without herbicides or chemical treatments, to best reflect the identity of the Roussillon terroir. Thanks to this approach, Gilles Troullier 's wines express remarkable purity and depth, appealing to connoisseurs of natural and biodynamic wines alike.
