We're telling you about their Winery
One of the few estates in the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux region that work like the 'old hands'. Château Le Puy, these are wines of character, incomparable fruitiness and which express their terroir magnificently. The organic and biodynamic methods used by the Amoreau family are in fact only those, ancestral, used by the Winery since their installation in 1610. Of course the technique has evolved...(the thermoregulation for example is done by self-regulating probes) but Mr Amoreau father, a strong and passionate character, is proud to preserve the ecosystem of his modest Côtes de Francs vineyard. And today he is asking for the recognition of a PDO... Le Puy ! Close to Saint-Emilion, château overlooks the Dordogne. Here, Merlot is king (87% of theGrape varieties) and Cabernet Sauvignon (11%) ripen sufficiently, Carménère and Semillon for the whites complete a nice range of authentic and deep wines. The vines, on average 50 years old, planted at 5500 vines per hectare on clayey limestone and silico-calcareous soils, give yields of around 36 hectolitres per hectare. | This explains the beautiful concentration of these wines! The healthy bunches of grapes that have not been treated with chemical fertilizers, herbicides or synthetic insecticides are of course hand-picked and destemming is the order of the day. Fermentation begins without yeasting and chaptalisation is unknown in the Amoreau family. The wine is tasted every week and matured for 2 years in 3 to 5 year old barrels and tuns, which are themselves steam-sterilized. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtration or fining, in the middle of the old moon. Château Le Puy's long ageing wines are available in 3 vintages (2 red and 1 white). The Winery created its wine library in 1917 in its own cellars and can thus offer us today old vintages dating back to its creation! |
