We're telling you about their Winery
Winery family since 1758, located in Piedmont, Canelli (25 km south of Asti), today Alessandra Bera and her brother Gianluigi run Winery. After a long period of polyculture and self-sufficiency, Winery became a fully-fledged wine business with Vittorio, Alessandra and Gianluigi's father, who took over Winery in 1964. After briefly trying out the new industrial viticulture methods of the 1960s, Vittorio returned to natural, organic logic, with a big B. Gianluigi joins his father in 1982 at the family Winery after oenological studies in Alba and will be joined by his sister Alessandra in 1995. At that time, although the vines were worked as naturally as possible, work in the cellar remained conventional. The Winery changed its winemaking methods after the hazardous visit of the "natural" generation of Beaujolais winemakers (Métras, Foillard, Thévenet, Lapierre...) and thus turned more and more towards natural wine with the use of indigenous yeasts and a significant reduction in the use of sulphur. |
Today the vineyard area covers almost 12 hectares, half of which is adjacent to Winery. The rest is divided up into a perimeter of 2 kilometres around, with very different exposures. The vines have been certified organic since 2000. The landscape is magnificent here; beautiful green hills with the peaks of the Alps in the background. The sea is also not far away (70 km)... The soil is mostly composed of marls resting on a base of silt with some clay and sand. The harvest begins when (and only when) the grapes are ripe. They are picked in 20 kg boxes. In the cellar, the reds are destemmed unlike the whites. If you want to rediscover what a real Moscatto d'Asti or a Barbera d'Asti is, it is with the wines of Winery Béra that you should do it! Whether red or white, the wines on offer are superbly mastered, you have to taste them quickly! |
