Choosing the right Chenin white wine
What is a Chenin white wine?
Chenin, also known as Pineau de la Loire. It originated in the Loire Valley. However, it is widely grown in other parts of the world, notably South Africa, New Zealand and California.
White wines made from Chenin have a wide variety of profiles, influenced in large part by their terroir. This delicate Grape variety requires careful attention, but rewards the effort by offering a palette of flavors ranging from fresh fruit and white flowers to more complex nuances, such as honey.
Where does Grape variety Chenin Blanc come from?
Originally from the Anjou region, Chenin white wine is inextricably linked with the history of the Loire castles. Cultivated since the 15th century, this Grape variety offers a range of wines from mellow to dry and semi-dry. All are deliciously flavorful. What makes Chenin blanc so fascinating is its ability to produce a wide variety of profiles.
What names?
One of the most famous Chenin Blanc appellations is Vouvray. Located in Touraine, it is renowned for its dry, sweet and even syrupy wines. There's also Saumur, known for its rather dry wines.
However, we recommend that you turn directly to the dry white wines of Anjou. Chenin expresses itself with lightness, while the sweet wines offer more density and concentration. An ideal choice to accompany your aperitifs!
What to serve with a Chenin white wine?
To accompany a young, dry Chenin Blanc, opt for fine fish with delicate flesh, such as sea bass, turbot or skate. It also goes perfectly with tapas, puff pastries and terrines as an aperitif. This wine can also sublimate poultry, sweetbreads or rabbit.
When it comes to Chenin blanc moelleux, pair it with blue-veined cheeses, aperitif appetizers or delicious roast chicken.
